Three persons have been detained by Nyeri police for the theft of over 417 cell phones, which have subsequently been found.
John Kariuki and James Thuita, two of the accused, were apprehended by police for allegedly stealing cell phones from customers in Gatitu.
After questioning the two, the investigators went to the Gatitu retail center and apprehended David Thinwa Ngatia, 32, who was the suspects’ accomplice.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) claims that Ngatia ran a mobile phone repair business out of which detectives had seized more stolen property.
The DCI said, “On November 1, 2023, John Kariuki and James Thuita were apprehended. Subsequently, detectives went to the Gatitu shopping center, where their accomplice David Thinwa Ngatia, who ran a mobile phone repair shop, was ambushed and the recoveries were made.”
The investigators confiscated several items, including an HP printer, three computers, two TVs, two cameras, and 47 mobile subscriber sim cards.
The multi-agency organization pledged to make sure muggers are held accountable for their actions as the DCI asked the public to be on the lookout for pickpockets.
On Monday, the three are scheduled to be arraigned.
