The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has had his nearly ten-year ban from the UK formally revoked.

Wine revealed the news in a statement that was published on X on November 6.

He conveyed his appreciation for the choice, highlighting the unfairness of accepting Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni—a dictator in his view—while keeping out Museveni and other advocates of a free and democratic Uganda.

“I am very glad to inform you that the ban against me from entering the UK has finally been overturned, and I will soon be visiting the UK after more than 10 years,” Wine said in a statement.

He also commended the NUP and People Power Diaspora followers for their loud protests and complimented the steadfast work of his legal staff in the UK.

Bobi Wine’s admission into the UK was banned due to allegations made by homosexual rights activists in 2014 that the lyrics of his song “Burn Dem” encouraged acts of homophobia.

Thus, for nearly ten years, the singer-turned-politician was barred from entering England by the Home Office.

Following his socially conscious songs that tackled pressing issues facing the public, Wine gained popularity. Since then, his fans have showered his post with congratulations.
