President William Ruto welcomes King Charles III to Mtongwe Naval Base in Likoni, Mombasa to highlight defence collaboration; DP Gachagua is also present.
The Admiral’s Barge carrying the British Monarch King Charles III and Queen Camilla has docked at Mtongwe Naval Base in Mombasa.
The area was seen to be well guarded when the two arrived.
As Captain-General, King Charles was donning his Royal Marine tie.
However, the Queen wore white palazzo pants and a pink chiffon blouse that Anna Valentine had given her, along with no noteworthy jewelry.
President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto welcomed Their Majesties to the Base.
The Chief of Defence Forces, the Commander of the Kenyan Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Defence CS, are also in attendance.
Joined by the President and the Kenyan Navy Commander, His Majesty made his way to the dais where the Guard of Honor saluted him.
Once the team rose to honor the national anthems of Kenya and Britain, a military band played them.
The King is visiting the naval station in his capacity as the Captain General of the Royal Marines, according to the British High Commission.
According to the website, “Their Majesties will witness Kenyan Marines, trained by the Royal Marines, demonstrating a covert beach landing, showing defense collaboration in action.”
On the 358th anniversary of the Corps’ foundation, last year, King Charles was named Captain General of the Royal Marines.
The amphibious troops of the Royal Navy are known as the Royal Marine Commandos, and they are widely regarded as one of the best combat forces in the world.
The King, then the Prince of Wales, joined the Royal Navy and trained to become a helicopter pilot at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines in Lympstone, Devon.
Later, as a member of the 845 Naval Air Squadron, His Majesty participated in military drills in the Western Atlantic and the West Indies while serving with Royal Marines aboard HMS Hermes.
On Monday night, the King and Queen Camilla touched down in Kenya for a four-day state visit.
President Ruto invited Their Majesties to visit, and the visit coincides with Kenya’s preparations for its 60th anniversary of independence.
