The office of the Deputy President is pushing for a hefty budget of Ksh.1.12 billion to undertake extensive renovations at both the Harambee Annex office and the Karen residence. In the proposed 2024/2025 budget estimates, officials defended this substantial expenditure, citing the deteriorating condition of these facilities.
Appearing before the National Assembly Committee on Administration and National Security, Patrick Mwangi from the Deputy President’s office justified the need for Ksh.460.4 million for the Harambee Annex renovations and an additional Ksh.660 million for the Karen residence. Despite queries regarding the substantial allocation for the relatively young buildings, Mwangi emphasized the necessity of these renovations due to years of neglect.
Furthermore, the Deputy President’s office is seeking an additional Ksh.250 million to spearhead the fight against alcohol and substance abuse, acknowledging the grave national security threat posed by this epidemic. Mwangi highlighted the collaborative efforts involving various offices, including that of the Deputy President’s spouse, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, in addressing this pressing issue.
