Following their claimed attack Ksh. 15.5 million gold scam theft from a foreign couple, four suspects have been arrested.

Three of the suspects were captured in Lavington, while the fourth was captured in an office building in Runda Glory Valley, Nairobi, according to a DCI statement released on Thursday.

The Australian man and his Ugandan wife are reported to have been drawn into Kenya from Uganda by Felix Ochieng’ Nyongesa, Ronald Arani Kirera, Jack Ouma Okwiri, and Nashon Otieno Angudha, who offered a gold business deal to be done in Nairobi.

The pair kept in touch with a “Raymond from England” acquaintance, who put them in touch with Felix, the fictitious seller.

“After a series of WhatsApp conversations, Felix asked the couple to meet him at Village Market in Gigiri, Nairobi on Oct 28, where they were to do the business,” DCI while recounting the events.

“Once at the agreed venue, Felix sent a driver who picked them up in a Toyota Prado and drove them to the office setting building along Glory Rd in Runda, where more than 10 men lay in wait.”

But when the guests arrived at the prearranged spot, they were attacked. The woman was chained, smacked, and inappropriately groped, while the man was struck with strong punches.

DCI claims that the pair had jewelry valued at Ksh.4.5 million ($30,000) and a total of sh.9 million ($60,000) stolen from them.

“The couple, who were severely hurt, in excruciating pain, and covered in bruises, were thrown back into the Prado and left at Rehema Hse, the CBD. Before they reported to DCI Gigiri, they were treated in a South B hospital thanks to the assistance of good Samaritans,” DCI wrote.

Eventually, a manhunt took place, and the four culprits were taken into custody.

According to the DCI, items found at the Runda office included money counting machines, metallic boxes, fraudulent mine certificates, military boots, military reflector jackets, KRA certificates, stamps, a Kenyan flag, and phony gold metal bars.

The four are scheduled to face accusations of attempted rape, kidnapping, and violent robbery.
