A traffic alert has been issued by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) in response to flooding that caused overtopping at the Kwa Kadzengo marsh region near Mtwapa in Kilifi County.
The route is currently impassable, according to KeNHA, as a result of the countrywide and local torrential rainfall that has completely drowned the area.
Before traffic resumes as usual, the Authority asks drivers to use caution and restraint while they wait for the water levels to drop. A statement was released on Friday night stating that the area is presently under construction.
To balance the water levels on both sides of the road, four 1200mm twin culverts will be erected on the new, 1.50 m higher road than the current one. This will have taken care of these places’ ongoing overcrowding.
