In an effort to restore the struggling industry, President William Ruto has stated that the government will lease sugar plants. He continued by saying that the government would ensure careful supervision of the industries in order to protect the interests of farmers. He stated that resources from the private sector will play a crucial role in modernizing the plants’ infrastructure to increase productivity.
He replied, “We’ll agree with them to put in new equipment and pay farmers on time. The Head of State noted that privatization is not an option because it would mean that private companies would take control of farms. The President spoke at the Uriri Technical and Vocational College in Migori during the Sunday service.
Later, he founded the institution’s lab for digital skills.
The President also spoke with farmers while at the South Nyanza Sugar Company (Sony). He laid the cornerstone at Uriri for the construction of the Piny-Owacho Level 3A Hospital, which will serve more than 200,000 Kanyamkago residents. This will speed up the transition to universal health coverage by increasing access to good, affordable care.
The 200-unit Mabera Affordable Housing project, which will give local youth employment possibilities, was officially launched by the head of state in Kuria West. Cabinet Secretaries Davis Chirchir, Salim Mvurya, Susan Nakhumicha, Moses Kuria, and Ezekiel Machogu were in attendance.
