President William Ruto’s four-day development trip of the Nyanza Region is now complete. During his visit, the President concentrated on building infrastructure that would help the area’s economy expand. The Nyanza area would be key in advancing the Bottom-Up Transformation Agenda, according to President Ruto. He claimed that among other programs, the government is funding irrigation, renovating and constructing ports and 10 landing places, and revitalizing sugar companies to accomplish this.
The MV Uhuru II, a ship with a carrying capacity of 1063 tonnes and a cruise speed of 14 knots, was commissioned by President Ruto at the Kisumu Shipyard. Victoria is a geostrategic resource that needs to be optimized to lower trade costs and improve integration in East Africa, he noted.
The efforts we are putting into it, he continued, “will raise the lake’s profile as a preferred maritime transport and assist in utilizing its enormous untapped economic potential.” He examined the Dhogoye Bridge and the approach roads along the Kisian-Usenge-Osieke road in Usenge, Siaya County.
The bridge will improve regional trade by linking Siaya and Busia. “This bridge will make it possible to move people and commodities quickly, safely, and affordably. In Liunda, Siaya County, President Ruto also started work on upgrading the Bondo – Uyawi – Kibanga – Liunda Beach Road to bitumen standards.
He claimed that by enabling quicker transit of fish and other items to markets, the route improves regional economic activities locally. “Improved accessibility is poised to stimulate economic development and transform the socio-economic landscape of the region,” he claimed.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Cabinet Secretaries Aden Duale, Salim Mvurya, Eliud Owalo, and Kipchumba Murkomen, Governors Prof. Anyang Nyong’o of Kisumu, James Orengo of Siaya, and Paul Otuoma of Busia, as well as lawmakers led by the majority leader Kimani Ichungwa, were also in attendance.
